Mens de mere velhavende familier ofte blev en uge om sommeren, gjorde de store forbedringer af jernbanesystemet omkring 30 \u00e5r tidligere det muligt for arbejderklassen at tage p\u00e5 dagsture og f\u00e5 lidt sund og frisk luft i kystbyerne. Denne store tilstr\u00f8mning af bes\u00f8gende fik iv\u00e6rks\u00e6ttere til at bygge boliger og nye attraktioner for at udnytte det og kickstarte den \u00f8konomiske v\u00e6kst i kystbyerne.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31886\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Westcliff-Rail-Poster.jpg\" alt=\"Westcliff Seaside Rail Poster\" width=\"600\" height=\"426\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For at sprede budskabet om den nu let tilg\u00e6ngelige friske luft og hvile, som regeringen anbefalede, blev der selvf\u00f8lgelig lavet mange plakater for at reklamere for kystbyerne. Southend-on-Sea var f.eks. den eneste badeby, der blev reklameret for i undergrundsbanen. Elektriske tog k\u00f8rte ferieg\u00e6ster s\u00e5 langt som til Barking, hvor damplokomotiver tog over p\u00e5 resten af rejsen. Fra 1910 til 1939 var Southend-on-Sea og Shoeburyness endda inkluderet som en del af District Line. Auktionarius mindede de potentielle k\u00f8bere om en rejsealder, hvor ferier var for de velhavende, damptog var normen, og kommercielle fly havde propeller.
