Men for dem, der lige er startet i designverdenen, kan det v\u00e6re lidt forvirrende. Generelt g\u00e6lder det, at jo h\u00f8jere DPI et billede har, jo mere information er der. Det betyder, at der er flere detaljer, og at billedet vil fremst\u00e5 meget klarere end et billede i en lavere opl\u00f8sning. Tidligere grafisk designer og teknologijournalist, <a href=\"http:\/\/chrisphin.com\/\">Christopher Phin<\/a> forklarer dette perfekt.<\/p>\n<p><em>\"Hvis du konstruerede et foto p\u00e5 en v\u00e6g ved hj\u00e6lp af farvede fliser, der hver var en tomme i kvadrat, ville dit billede have en opl\u00f8sning p\u00e5 1dpi, og du ville v\u00e6re n\u00f8dt til at st\u00e5 ret langt tilbage for at se billedet som glat og sammenh\u00e6ngende. Hvis man i stedet brugte fliser p\u00e5 en halv tomme p\u00e5 hver side, ville man f\u00e5 noget, der var 2dpi, og som man ikke beh\u00f8vede at st\u00e5 s\u00e5 langt tilbage fra, f\u00f8r det holdt op med at se blokeret ud.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Det element, der ofte glemmes, er problemet med, at billedst\u00f8rrelsen bestemmes af pixelst\u00f8rrelsen. Hvis du f.eks. har sat et billede op i A4-st\u00f8rrelse i 72 dpi og derefter \u00e6ndrer billedet til 300 dpi, vil billedet blive meget mindre. De to elementer i billedet, hvor mange punkter pr. tomme og den samlede st\u00f8rrelse, er helt afh\u00e6ngige af hinanden. Hvis du forestiller dig, at et billede er tegnet til en bestemt st\u00f8rrelse, og at antallet af punkter pr. tomme \u00f8ges ved at h\u00e6ve dpi-v\u00e6rdien, m\u00e5 billedet blive mindre, da der er flere punkter p\u00e5 hver tomme.
