Plotseling werden we allemaal experts over een onderwerp waar velen van ons eigenlijk niet genoeg over wisten.<\/p>\n<p>Sommigen volgden het advies van Boris Johnson op en zongen twee keer 'happy birthday' bij de gootsteen, tot groot vermaak van iedereen die maar kon horen. Anderen bekeken video's over hoe we onze handen op de juiste manier moesten wassen, waardoor we ons meteen realiseerden hoe slecht we het tot dan toe hadden gedaan.<\/p>\n<p>Het advies was, en is nog steeds, dat we onze handen in eerste instantie met water en zeep moeten wassen. Wanneer dit echter niet mogelijk of handig is, kan een handontsmettingsmiddel een effectief alternatief zijn.<\/p>\n<p>Maar wat moeten we weten om handontsmettingsmiddel effectief te gebruiken? Na de lancering van ons assortiment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/nl\/hand-sanitiser-stations\/\">stations voor handontsmetting<\/a>besloten we dat uit te zoeken.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>1. Zorg ervoor dat het minstens 60% alcohol bevat.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Het gebruik van alcohol om ziektekiemen te doden gaat terug tot de 14e eeuw, toen het werd gebruikt door de Franse arts Guy de Chauliac voor militaire verbanden. Hij zag in wat tot op de dag van vandaag bekend is - dat alcohol gebruikt kan worden als antisepticum.<\/p>\n<p>Erkend wordt dat <strong>een alcoholvolumegehalte (abv) tussen 60% en 95% is vereist<\/strong> om micro-organismen, antibioticaresistente bacteri\u00ebn en veel verschillende soorten virussen, waaronder coronavirus, te doden. Alles onder 60% kan de groei van ziektekiemen alleen maar verminderen in plaats van ze te doden.<\/p>\n<p>Er zijn verschillende soorten alcohol en chemische verbindingen die gewoonlijk worden gecombineerd om handontsmettingsmiddel te maken; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Isopropyl_alcohol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">isopropanol<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ethanol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ethanol<\/a> en <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1-Propanol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">n-Propanol<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In de nasleep van de COVID-19 uitbraak heeft de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/gpsc\/5may\/Guide_to_Local_Production.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">een gids gemaakt<\/a> voor bedrijven en distilleerderijen die op zoek zijn naar handwrijfmiddelen en geven hen de formules die ze aanbevelen.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>2. Gebruik genoeg om beide handen te bedekken<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Om handontsmettingsmiddel effectief te laten zijn, moet je genoeg gebruiken om beide handen volledig te bedekken. Dit omvat de rug van de handen, rond de vingernagels, tussen de vingers en rond de polsen.<\/p>\n<p>Vaak gebruiken mensen te weinig ontsmettingsmiddel, hetzij om flessen langer houdbaar te maken, hetzij voor de snelheid. Natuurlijk laten drogen<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Nadat de handontsmettingsgel is aangebracht en ingewreven, is het heel belangrijk dat je het op een natuurlijke manier laat drogen. Als je het droogproces versnelt door je handen af te vegen, beperk je de effectiviteit van de ontsmettingsgel.<\/p>\n<p>Sommige mensen vinden dat het gebruik van een handdesinfectans hun huid kan uitdrogen en vegen het af om dit te voorkomen. Alcoholgels drogen de huid in mindere mate uit dan water en zeep, en sommige ontsmettingsmiddelen bevatten glycerol om dit te voorkomen. Velen zullen echter vinden dat droge handen een kleine prijs zijn om zichzelf te beschermen tegen gevaarlijke virussen zoals COVID-19.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>4. Blijf je handen wassen<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Als de kans zich voordoet, zou de algemene bevolking nog steeds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/healthy-body\/best-way-to-wash-your-hands\/\">hun handen wassen<\/a> met water en zeep als eerste optie. Behalve dat zeep omhulde virussen zoals het coronavirus doodt, kan zeep ook niet-omhulde virussen zoals het norovirus doden, wat alcohol niet kan. Door je handen te wassen verwijder je ook vet en vuil, waardoor handontsmettingsmiddelen minder effectief zijn.<\/p>\n<p>Er zijn momenten waarop je geen toegang hebt tot water en zeep, en op die momenten is een handontsmettingsmiddel een goede vervanging. Toch moet je voor de zekerheid bij de eerstvolgende gelegenheid je handen wassen. <strong>Behandel handen wassen en ontsmetten niet als twee verschillende opties, maar als twee complementaire acties.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Dit advies is anders in de gezondheidszorg, waar handontsmettingsmiddel gewoonlijk een hoger alcoholgehalte heeft en over het algemeen de voorkeur geniet boven handen wassen.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Wil je handontsmetting in je zaak?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Als je een organisatie bent waar personeel, klanten of bezoekers naar terugkeren als de afsluiting is versoepeld, is het verstandig om na te denken over hoe je mensen de gelegenheid kunt geven om hun handen te reinigen.
