Even today, <a title=\"www.apple.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple Inc.<\/a> doesn\u2019t rely on the likes of Facebook or Twitter to promote the company\u2019s latest hotware.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Test drive a Macintosh.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13714\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/test-drive-a-macintosh-print-advert.jpg\" alt=\"Test drive a Macintosh print ads\" width=\"540\" height=\"650\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13715\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/take-home-a-macintosh-print-advert.jpg\" alt=\"Take home a Macintosh print advert\" width=\"465\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Images Source: Marketing Directo and Reddit<\/p>\n<p>Here are two of the early Macintosh print ads, tempting people into actually trying Apple\u2019s new home and business computer for the first time. The first ad employs bold imagery to set the scene and grab the viewer&#8217;s attention. This was then expanded upon by a more detailed, persuasive column of PR blurb in the second ad &#8211; pitching Apple\u2019s clever gimmick of a \u2018desktop computer test drive\u2019 to prospective punters. It&#8217;s easy to forget that the Mac was a truly revolutionary experience for many microcomputer vets in 1984, let alone the general public. Prior to the Mac, computers didn\u2019t even usually have a mouse to control them.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>I think, therefore iMac.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13717\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/i-think-therefore-imac-billboard.jpg\" alt=\"I think therefore iMac billboard ad\" width=\"600\" height=\"369\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Image Source: Advertolog<\/p>\n<p>This 1999 billboard advert for the Apple iMac by ad agency TBWA is a playful dig at Ogilvy &amp; Mather\u2019s \u2018I think, therefore IBM.\u2019 advertising slogan from 1988. This advertising agency has enjoyed a long and successful collaboration with Apple over the years. The Los Angeles offices of <a title=\"American division of the advertising agency TBWA Worldwide\" href=\"http:\/\/tbwachiatday.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TBWA\\Chiat\\Day<\/a> also created the famous \u2018Think different.\u2019 ad slogan for Apple back in 1997 (see below for more details).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PC vs. Mac<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13718\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/peep-show-mac-vs-pc-print-ads.jpg\" alt=\"Peep Show Mac vs PC print ad\" width=\"487\" height=\"650\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Image Source: Reddit<\/p>\n<p>Peep Show comedy actors David Mitchell and Robert Webb appeared in the British versions of Apple\u2019s popular and long-running PC vs. Mac print, TV and cinema advertising campaign.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Chic. Not geek.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/chic-not-geek-print-advertising.jpg\" alt=\"Chic Not geek print advertising\" width=\"650\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Image Source: Mac Life<\/p>\n<p>iMac was the beginning of Apple\u2019s product and marketing strategy to move away from the hardcore Macintosh users and court the masses for those really big buck$.
