{"id":22494,"date":"2014-08-07T12:37:22","date_gmt":"2014-08-07T11:37:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/?p=22494"},"modified":"2022-06-17T22:26:25","modified_gmt":"2022-06-17T21:26:25","slug":"light-and-shadow-black-and-white","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/photography\/light-and-shadow-black-and-white\/","title":{"rendered":"Light And Shadow Black And White Photography By Rupert Vandervell"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><em><strong>Photographer<\/strong> <a title=\"Rupert Vandervell | Home\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rupertvandervell.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rupert Vandervell<\/a> took these <strong>striking<\/strong><strong>\u00a0black and white photos<\/strong>\u00a0playing with<strong> light and shadows<\/strong> in his series entitled &#8216;<strong>Geometrix<\/strong>&#8216;.<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Rupert Vandervell is a London born and bred <strong>photographer<\/strong> specialising in <strong>fine arts<\/strong> and <strong>digital photography<\/strong>. Most of his <strong>portfolio<\/strong> focuses on <em>sharp lines<\/em> and <em>striking colour contrasts<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Vandervell describes his series as,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;A combination of light, shade and human form that comes together in aesthetic harmony, creating a special geometric relationship. These pictures are about clean lines, angles, shapes, textures and their abstract collaboration. The light shines on the urban landscape, spinning its web.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Vandervell continues to describe his photographic style as <em>&#8220;highly representative&#8221;<\/em> of his personality. Describing his passion with sharp lines and black and white photography as an obsession. The basic rule of using different kind of light in photos (i.e. soft light, hard light, broad light and spot light) is almost identical in taking shadow effects.<\/li>\n<li>Use your depth of field &#8211; shadowed effects can look really powerful when taken from different distances. Find a depth that really elongates the shadow effect.<\/li>\n<li>Move the object around that is creating the shadow &#8211; remember, it&#8217;s not a still object! If the angle of the shadow isn&#8217;t cast right. move it until you&#8217;re happy with it.<\/li>\n<li>Harbour those highlights and lowlights &#8211; use the light and shadow to bring out the shape of the landscape in your images.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Print Your Photographs Onto A Calendar<\/h2>\n<p>Feeling inspired?
