Read on for a detailed breakdown of each step\u2026<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step One: Open the template<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To get started, you\u2019ll need to download and open our free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/free-artwork-templates\/business-cards\/\">Business Card template<\/a>. We offer templates for many different dimensions, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/print-inspiration\/business-card-size-guide\/\">standard Business Card size<\/a> in the UK is 85 x 55 mm, so we&#8217;ll use that one in this example.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll see the bleed, trim and safe areas marked out on the template, like this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23318 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/1-Template-Layer.jpg\" alt=\"1 Template Layer\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next step, making guides. To do this drag from the rulers on each side of your document to the <em>safe<\/em> and <em>bleed box<\/em> lines. Then, add two additional lines on the central axis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top tip:<\/strong> If you\u2019re using Photoshop CC, these lines will automatically snap to the centre of the document if pulled over it.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step Two: Create a fill layer<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A fill layer will give you more options for your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/business-card-designs\/\">Business Card design<\/a> so you can add colour, levels or patterns. To create a fill layer in your template:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click <em>Layer <\/em>in the top-left corner<\/li>\n<li>Then click <em>New Fill Layer<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Finally, click <em>Solid Colour<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With this selected, change the colour using the <em>Colour Picker.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step Three: Add your images<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>With your fill layer selected, you can now add your images by dragging them directly into the document from your Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows).<\/p>\n<p>When you drag an image into the template, you\u2019ll have the option to resize it before it is placed. You can change size, rotation and other qualities in Photoshop by using <strong>Free Transform<\/strong>. To do this, click <em>Edit <\/em><em>\u2013 Transform \u2013 Free Transform.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/gardener_business_card_2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/gardener_business_card_2.png\" alt=\"Add Images\" width=\"886\" height=\"603\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Top tip:<\/strong> In the video, a rectangle is drawn at the bottom to act as a solid for the grass to sit on. To do this, use the <em>Rectangle Tool<\/em> found in the <em>Tool Bar<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step Four: Join the images<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Joining two images can make colour editing easier.<\/p>\n<p>In the video, we connect the grass and rectangle layers by highlighting them all in the <em>Layers Tab<\/em>. Then, right-click and select <em>Convert to Smart Object<\/em> to create one single layer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/gardener_business_card_1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-64418\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/gardener_business_card_1.png\" alt=\"Join The Images\" width=\"1415\" height=\"833\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step Five: Change the colour<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To change the overall colour of an image, right-click on your connected layer and select <em>Blending Options<\/em>. This will open a basic pallet of image editing options.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/gardener_business_card_3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64424\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/gardener_business_card_3.png\" alt=\"Change The Colour\" width=\"1350\" height=\"676\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Top tip<\/strong>: For more variety, click <em>Color Overlay<\/em> to bring up a gradient colour chart, then click on the specific shading to see the image change.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step Six: Add text<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You can type text on your template using the <em>Text Tool<\/em> located in the <strong>Tool Bar<\/strong>. To change the properties of your text, including font, size and spacing, click the <em>Character Panel.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/gardener_business_card_4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64427\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/gardener_business_card_4.png\" alt=\"Add Text\" width=\"847\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step Seven: Save and create a new template<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>When the front of your Business Card is done, save it as both a PSD (Photoshop Document) and a PDF (Portable Data File). You need the PSD to make any changes, but the PDF will be the printed form you attach in the order.<\/p>\n<p>Then, open the PSD file again as it\u2019s time to create the back.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top tip:<\/strong> It\u2019s easier to create the back of your landscaping Business Card from the existing template as you can quickly match the colours used on the front.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step Eight: Duplicate your images<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On the back of our example, we used a repeat pattern of several gardening tools. To duplicate your images, right-click on its layer and select <em>Duplicate<\/em>. This will give you a choice of where you\u2019d like it pasted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/gardener_business_card_5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64430\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solopress.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/gardener_business_card_5.png\" alt=\"Duplicate Images\" width=\"1380\" height=\"638\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We then rotate the images using <em>Free Transform <\/em>to create the pattern. You can duplicate numerous images at a time, as long as they are all selected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top tip:<\/strong> When you duplicate an image, each duplicate will appear as its own layer.
