We recently produced <\/span>FUN Times Tables Rhymes!<\/span><\/i>, a self-published educational book developed by former primary teacher Helen Eaton. Drawing on years of classroom, tutoring education and consulting experience, the book addresses common challenges around times table recall in a way that builds confidence in young learners.<\/span><\/p>\n

From the classroom to a problem worth solving<\/b><\/h3>\n

Helen Eaton spent years working as a UK primary teacher, tutor and education consultant. It was clear that specific times tables began to stand out as being tricky for the majority of children.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI noticed that many children understood multiplication conceptually, but struggled to recall the trickiest ones correctly,\u201d Helen explains. \u201cThey knew what they were doing, but certain times tables just would not stick.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Rather than viewing this as a lack of aptitude, Helen saw it as a shortfall in traditional approaches that fail to consider different learning styles. While rote-learning and repetition work for some pupils, they leave others discouraged and disengaged.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat frustration can really knock confidence,\u201d she says. \u201cOnce a child thinks they are \u2018bad at maths\u2019, it becomes much harder to move them forward.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Rethinking how times tables are taught<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>Helen began developing alternative ways to support recall, drawing on classroom experience and what she saw working in practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy approach needed to be playful, memorable and reassuring,\u201d she says. \u201cSomething that met children where they were, rather than pushing them through drills.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The result was <\/span>FUN Times Tables Rhymes!<\/span><\/i> A multi-sensory resource that combines short story rhymes, memory hooks and visual supports. Each table is reinforced using tools children already recognise from the classroom, including maths arrays and bar models.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted the book to help children remember the tables they find hardest,\u201d Helen explains. \u201cBut just as importantly, I wanted it to help them feel more confident while doing it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Writing and shaping the content<\/b><\/h3>\n

Once the concept was clear, Helen began turning classroom ideas into a structured book.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was about translating what worked in tutoring sessions into something a child could use independently,\u201d she says. \u201cThe language had to be friendly, the visuals clear, and the progression logical.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Self-publishing via her company<\/span>\u00a0Eaton Consultancy Ltd, <\/a>Helen was keen to retain full ownership of the work, selling the book via her own Foldable Fun online shop.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy late grandad always said, \u2018If you are proud of something, you should put your name on it,\u2019\u201d she says. \u201cSo I did.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Choosing how to print and bind the book<\/b><\/h3>\n

With the content complete, the next step was finding a printer that could deliver a professional finish without compromising on colour or clarity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Helen chose Solopress for the production of her paperback books.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe print quality is exceptional,\u201d she says. \u201cI was genuinely blown away by how vibrant the colours look and the overall finish.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For illustrated educational books, consistency matters. Colour reproduction, paper choice and binding all affect how usable the final product is, particularly for younger readers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI needed the visuals to be clear and engaging,\u201d Helen explains. \u201cSolopress delivered exactly that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Helen also found the pricing competitive for the specification she required, giving her confidence to move ahead with self-publishing at scale.<\/span><\/p>\n

Receiving the finished books<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>Seeing the finished product for the first time was a defining moment.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is something very special about holding the book in your hands,\u201d Helen says. \u201cAll that work, suddenly real and tangible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For Helen, the physical book reinforces the care that went into creating it.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels like something children can be proud to use,\u201d she adds. \u201cAnd that matters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Turning ideas into print<\/b><\/h3>\n

Helen\u2019s experience shows what is possible when subject knowledge, careful preparation and professional print come together.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI created this book because I knew it could make a difference,\u201d she says. \u201cSeeing it printed properly has been incredibly rewarding.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
