Next-day delivery is something we’re proud to offer — but it takes a great deal of organisation, hard work and efficiency to deliver that, day after day. Around one in five of our jobs are next-day dispatch orders, but whatever the deadline, we treat every delivery with the same focus.
That commitment relies on a team that works swiftly and consistently to get every order out on time — with an on-time dispatch rate that stays well above 99%. With colleagues covering shifts around the clock to keep things moving, we wanted to shine a light on some of the unsung heroes behind our delivery promise.
Keeping pace, every day
Dispatch is the final stage in the Solopress process. It’s where print becomes parcels, and orders turn into outbound deliveries. From bulk jobs to last-minute flyers, the Dispatch Team checks, labels, packs and loads every order for collection.
This is a high-volume, high-precision operation. Each day, the team handles between 2,500 and 3,000 orders. They prepare anything from 50 to 100 pallets — plus two full lorry loads of items that don’t travel on pallets. At peak, that can total up to 60 tonnes of print in a single shift.
Each day, two courier collections and five or six pallet pick-ups take orders across the UK. Timing is critical, but so is accuracy. Every parcel needs to be packaged properly and dispatched without delay.
Meet a few of the team
We managed to catch a few of the team between tasks to tell us a little about themselves:
“They call me Jack-of-all-trades because I’ve probably done every job going at Solopress! I’d say we’ve never been busier than we are now, but we’ve never been better equipped to deal with it!”
Jackie Raby, Dispatch Co-ordinator
“It feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day, but we get it all done, day in, day out.”
Steve Furness, Dispatch Manager
“Today’s just another day! There’s always a lot going on, but we’ve got a rhythm going and everyone knows what they’re doing.”
Charles Sullivan, Dispatch
Working in sync with 24-hour production
Solopress operates around the clock — and Dispatch is no exception. The team works in step with ongoing production to make sure every completed job is ready for the final collection at 10pm.
That means working with urgency and precision until the very end of the shift. Communication is key. Colleagues across departments coordinate every label, pallet and van load. Often, they’re loading jobs just minutes before the lorry doors close.
