3D printer manufacturers MakerBot have teamed up with Sesame Street to sell officially licensed, 3D printable content from the kids TV show…
Mr. Snuffleupagusis, better known as Snuffy to fans, is spearheading a Sesame Street move into the exciting new world of 3D printing.
Soon all of the TV show’s most popular characters – like Bert & Ernie, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Elmo and Oscar the Grouch – will join Snuffy in the MakerBot stores as downloadable artwork files. Buyers can then use these files to 3D print their own Sesame Street replica models at home – even choosing the colour they’d prefer to see their character replicated in. (They’ll also be able to paint them once they’ve been 3D printed, of course!)
Compatible with MakerBot’s Replicator Fifth Generation Model, Replicator 2 and Replicator Mini 3D printers, the finished Snuffy model is sized 97mm x 92mm x 87mm and should take just under three hours to 3D print.
It’s worth noting that although they’re a great way to introduce your kids to the mind-blowing concept of 3D printing, these 3D printed models from Sesame Street and MakerBot are not intended to be used as toys.
“We are really proud to launchour first branded and licensed 3D printed products for the MakerBot Digital Store and MakerBot Retail Stores with Sesame Street,” says Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “Sesame Street has always been near and dear to my heart. I used to work for Jim Henson’s CreatureShop and I grew up watching Sesame Street. Having the ability to 3D print a beloved character – or soon, an entire set of cherished characters – will be really fun and educational. 3D printing is like having an engineering education in a box, but with Sesame Street, it has a playful and familiar twist.”
The Sesame Street Snuffy 3D printable character file is now available, priced at $1.29, on the MakerBot Digital Store.
